The Number System for 9v9

 

 

1 - Goalkeeper

  • Stop the ball from hitting the back of the net
  • Communicate with your teammates. 
  • Build up the intensity of play. 
  • Be skilled with not only your hands but the ball at your feet as well. 

 

2/3 - Wingers 

  • Responsible for getting forward into the attack and dropping back to help defend. 
  • Provide width and penetration to all three levels of the field - defensive third, middle third, and attacking third. 

4/5 - Center Backs

  • Both center backs should work as a unit. 
  • Tackling, clearing the ball, and communication to the team are vital for this position. 
  • Maintain a balanced defensive line 

 

6/8 - Center Midfielders 

  • Keep possession of the ball on offense and dictate the tempo of the game. 
  • Be able to pass, control, and receive the ball under pressure at all times. 
  • Intercept passes from the opposing team. 
  • Strong in passing, crossing, and shooting. 
  • Be physical and aggressive towards opposition when defending. 

10 - Attacking Center Midfielder 

  • Creative with the ball, creates the best goal scoring opportunities.
  • Receive and control the ball under pressure. 
  • Quick decision making in possession.

9 - Forward

  • Responsible for staying high on the opposition's center backs. 
  • The offense looks to get the forward the ball when in the attacking third of the field to score goals
  • Strong ability to shoot and put the ball in the back of the net.
